In the spring of 2014, I had an amazing experience of coaching softball at Hightstown High School, and was able to continue my experience in the fall, while coaching field hockey. This experience allowed me to work with students and teach them in a different setting, away from the classroom. I learned a lot about myself as an instructor and was also able to learn from my team a variety of skills and tools I can use in future coaching experiences, but also in teaching. Each day I coached, I had to have a plan of what I wanted my team to work on, had to create an environment where the girls felt comfortable to take risks, and build a strong relationship with each player and as a team. This experience allowed me to take my teaching career to the next level and practice my communication and instruction skills in a fun environment.
