The purpose of Reading Workshop:
Teacher Role:
•Confer with students about book & reading journal responses
•Take notes on student progress, book being read, etc.
Student Role:
•Select a book for independent Reading
•Read silently
•Write responses in reading journal on various aspects of text
- Students develop reading strategies, learning new vocabulary, reading with fluency, analyzing texts, making personal and textual connections, and building background knowledge.
- Make connections as they learn from and about reading.
- Use comprehension and inferencing strategies.
- Engage in Mini-Lessons to increase comprehension and develop effective readers.
- Literature Study: Provide time to collaborate with peers about quality self-selected text.
